The Economy Report is intended to provide information and evidence about business in Ashtead from which policies can be formulated for the NDP. The report draws on data from the census, MVDC and other sources.
The main conclusions of the report are:
- The shops on Barnett Wood Lane should be designated as a Local Shopping Area to provide protection against changes of use to either non-retail business or residential;
- We should encourage the creation of a new supermarket on The Street to increase shopper numbers in that area;
- We should provide additional protection against a change of use for the three Ashtead public houses;
- We should resist further changes from business premises to residential use to protect local jobs.
The report was agreed at the Forum meeting in September 2015 and the proposed policies were agreed at the October meeting.
This document and any additional material was used to create the relevant section of the NDP. Hereinafter, any further changes will be made to the NDP itself.
